Picture and method of a coffee 'cup' cake?? help needed, 10 points to best answer?
I need pictures and a method of making a coffee cup cake were the whole cup is make up of cake and is 3D
if you dont understand i have found 2 pictures:
http://www.anniebs.com/p7hg_img_1/fullsize/COFFEE_CUP_CAKE_fs.jpg
http://www.susanlawrence.com/photos/MenuItems/cappuccino_cup200731364550.jpg
Please can you give a method of how to do it. it has to be quite easy the actual making of the cake, i can spend more time decorating it.
the only way i thought it would be possible to make the cake would be to make 3 or so cakes and stack them on top of each other. then cut to the right shape and ice. then make a handle out of icing
can you think of any other ways of doing it and ways to decorate, if possible can you include pictures??
thanks in advance
get answering =P
What cool looking cakes! I am a cake decorator and had not seen anything like these before.
As you mentioned, I would suggest simply stacking however many round cakes you choose to use (to acquire the desired height), using frosting in between the layers. Once assembled, use a knife to cut the cakes from top to bottom on an angle, to get that coffee cup shape. Once shaped, ice cake (the first photo looks like fondant was used to cover the cake, the second looks like frosting) and decorate. Use fondant or gumpaste to create the handle (both will dry fairly hard and maintain the shape), or create one by piping out a thick curved shape using hard-drying royal icing. Be careful because this piece will be delicate. No matter what medium you use, allow 24-48 hours of air-drying time.
The only other idea I'd suggest would be to use cakes of graduated sizes, maybe 8 and 10 inches, with the smaller one(s) on the bottom, so less shaping would be necessary.
Happy Baking!
