How do you take a Professional photo of a cat/kitten?
I am just starting my photography business. I have done plently of dogs before but never a cat or kitten. Has anyone got any tips? Some sorter toy or something?
A cat is independant and really can't be trained, a dog on the other hand, particularly a well trained one, just want's to please - well usually, but cats have one weakness, they love to hunt so even a piece of crumpled paper tied to a pice of string and you can have the cat jumping and stalking anywhere you want, till the cat gets fed up that is.
A skein of brightly coloured wool is another good prop if you 'play fight' with it it will attack it viciously tying itself to one spot - literally. It will take you several hours to get the knots and tangles out of the wool though LOL.
Get some shots of the owner (or better still the owners daughter) cuddling and nursing the cat.
In short anything that keeps the cat under your lens, none of them will last long.
Get your lighting and camera set up before they arrive (as I'm sure you know) a radio remote trigger works well here, another technique is to use loads of Mp a wide field of view and crop the final images. Don't be tempted to shoot outside, the cat will just run for cover.
Have some tasty treats handy, works with both cats and dogs, you very quickly become their friend.
