New DVD Set for Fire Safety
A one-stop advice centre has been launched to give building and facilities managers the complete picture of their legal responsibilities in fire protection.
National contractor J & S Seddon Painting has joined forces with Crown Paints – manufacturers of Timonox Flame Retardant Coatings - to produce a fact-filled DVD and CD Rom dual set to give property professionals the inside track on the subject, in a format designed to fit in with today’s increasingly paperless office.
The DVD outlines details of the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 and explains the responsibility this has placed on managers of public buildings, such as museums, concert halls and leisure centres. For managers of public facilities in Scotland, the requirements of the Fire (Scotland) Act 2005 are covered.
This film is supported by a CD-Rom, which pulls together a wealth of information on the subject from a variety of sources, including guides to carrying out fire risk assessments, technical data sheets for the Crown Trade Timonox range, and technical documents.
Seddon has developed a website ‘news centre,’ where managers can order the dual disk set, and view a preview of the DVD online at http://www.seddonpainting.co.uk/fire
Mark Brindley, joint managing director of J & S Seddon Painting, said: “This dual DVD and CD-Rom set pulls together information in an objective and concise format, which keeps building and facilites managers well-briefed of their requirements under law.
“The information has also been CPD Certified by the Construction CPD Certification Service.”
Crown Trade’s Timonox Flame Retardant Coatings offer protection for walls, ceilings and wood-based substrates and their capabilities are demonstrated under independent testing conditions in the DVD.
Linda Allmark, National Specification Manager at Crown Paints, said: “Multiple layers of paint coatings, whether solvent or water based, can make a previously non-combustable surface dangerous by its potential to burn - spreading fire rapidly and turning circulation and communal areas or escape routes into a mass of flames in seconds.
“Timonox buys the time to get people out of a building and the DVD shows just what difference flame retardant paints can make to a building’s fire safety.”

A Few Basic Steps To Help You Get Started With Oil Painting
Most people who are artistic in nature at some point in time have probably thought about using oil painting to express their talents and create beautiful paintings. Fortunately, learning how to do create these paintings is very possible by taking several basic steps. Doing so is really just a matter of becoming proficient with certain oil painting techniques.
Before you begin with oil painting, be sure that you are working in a well ventilated area. You want to be in an open area where air can circulate without obstruction, and where you have the ability to move freely.
Next, check to make sure your easel is at a height where you're comfortable. You should be able to paint without bending over or standing on your tip toes to reach the medium. The proper way to hold the brush is to grasp the part where the ferrule ends.
Also, place a cloth, plastic bag, or a tarp on the floor where you are painting. The table and floor should be covered properly if you are using a table easel.
After all that is done, you are ready to get started on your painting, once of course you are dressed appropriately. Get all of your paints set up, which involves having a single solvent in one container and another with two parts of solvent with at least a single part oil.
Enough space should be available for your brushes, palette, solvent, palette knife, rags, and paint tubes. The amount of oil paints you want to buy is completely up to you. However, two or three colors should suffice when starting, so avoid putting all of your paint in the palette initially.
Now it's time to actually begin oil painting. When your session is over, clean your brushes and give some time for your work to dry, which might be as long as two days.
