what is the nicest coastal region to stay in Maine?
My wife always wanted to go to Maine so I am taking her for her b'day we live in the philadelphia area so it will be a nice long drive, I would like to take her to a bed and breakfast in a town that you see on Maine post cards
I will be traveling in the fall season early october
The postcards you see are mostly from Camden, Ogunquit, Kennebunkport, York, etc
I would recommend:
Camden: a little further north, but absolutely beautiful
Boothbay Harbor: very cute, on the water, lots of preppy shops but also wonderful sailboat/fishing boat views. My cousin got married here, the wedding was beautiful
Kennebunkport: beachy areas nearby (Goose Rocks), if you want to be on the water you may have to rent a small house or condo, but try googling "kennebunkport bed and breakfast" just to be sure, this is where the Bush family has their summer home, really fun artsy shops too
Ogunquit: cute, but very. very. touristy. right next to outlet shops at Kittery
York: next to Ogunquit, same sort of deal
Portland: Specifically, the Old Port. On the water, great night life, fun shops, bars, and restaurants. Portland really is the heart of Maine
