Anyone been to Mahogany beach in Ocho Rios?
I'm thinking about booking an excursion which includes Dunn River Falls and Mahogany beach. Has anyone ever been to Mahogany beach? If so, does it get real crowded? Are there beach chairs to rent? How are the drink prices? Any info is great!
We went in August directly from Dunn's River. You don't say how much the excursion is but we took a cab to Dunn's River for about $15 before all the excursions left and beat the crowd. From there, a cab to Mahogany Beach and back to the port was $20. I think Dunn's River was $12/person to get in but I don't recall.
You can google Mahogany Beach pictures. There is a small beach bar/restaurant that serves fantastic jerk pork. Drink prices were a little bit high but nothing outrageous. $6 for a mixed drink, $3-4 for a beer. You can rent beach chairs (much like everything there) for a fee. There are a couple little huts on the beach for shade. The beach area is not really very large so I would imagine with a couple excursion groups it could get crowded. Again we got there early and it wasn't bad but the groups were coming in as we were leaving and it was starting to get a little crowded.
I would say to do the trips independently if the cost is not much different since you'll likely beat all the crowds by doing so. There are plenty of cabs at Dunns River to take and you can get the cab to meet you back at Mahogany at a designated time.
