About Artist Jin Shangyi:

Jin Shangyi, one of representatives of China’s contemporary oil painting artists, who was born in December 1934 in Jiaozuo, Henan province, China. In 1953 graduated from the Painting Department at the Central Academy of Fine Arts and continued his post-graduate study, In 1955 Jin Shangyi went to Soviet and entered into the oil painting training class held by the former Soviet Union artist Maksimov to learn oil painting.

Now Jin Shangyi is acted as Chairman of the Chinese Artists Association, and professor of Central Academy of Fine Arts. Former president of Central Academy of Fine Arts and enjoy special government allowances.

Jin Shangyi had taken charge of the teaching job at the first oil painting studio in the Central Academy of Fine Arts, whose artistic practice and art ideas, has influenced much on a large number of oil painting artists and caused a hot trend of absorbing nutrition from classicism in China since the mid-80’s.

Art Career: Jin Shangyi oil painting creations was take the historical themes of Chinese revolution as a starting point, during the nearly 20 years of before the reform and opening-up, he has created a large number of historical themed oil paintings, such as “Step on the Muztag Ata”, “December Conference “, “Long March” and so on, these works fully demonstrated the art talent of the artist, and people become familiar with Jin Shangyi. But in terms of Jin Shangyi, the creative practice of history paintings is just one of important links which urged him to begin his creation of portrait painting.

In the process of painting history oil paintings, Jin Shangyi gradually found the most interested things are those figures per se who showed unique vitality and personality, which make his thinking about the history of switched to the explore of the life and the human’s spiritual world. Prompt Milling of Olives for Oil and Profit

There is archeological evidence in Greece that olive oil presses were used to extract oil from olives as long ago as five thousand years. If proper precautions are used, good quality olive oil can be obtained today by using the same sort of press that was used for centuries, if not millennia. Today there are newer techniques and technologies but one of the most important parts of making olive oil remains true. It is necessary to start making olive oil within a day or slightly more after picking the olives. Acids start to build up with longer storage of olives. This affects taste and lowers the price the maker of olive oil can charge. The country of Algeria is starting a monumental project to plant a million hectares (2.5 million acres) of olive trees. One of the key factors to success in producing high quality oil for export will be building a sufficient number of processing facilities with sufficient capacity near to the olive orchards.

Milling is the name for the entire process of extracting oil from olives. People have known for years that you need to grind the olives into a paste and that you need to press the paste to extract the oil. As science has progressed we have come to know that the oil is produced in what are called "mesocarp" cells in the olive. The olive stores oil in a vacuole called a lipovacuole so that every cell contains a tiny drop of olive oil. The point of the whole thing is to effectively extract as much of the oil as possible, separating it from the other structural parts of the fruit. The old saying that oil and water don't mix is true here because the oil can be separated from plant material and water by pressing and centrifugation (modern extraction) without adding chemical solvents. This entire process works with the old method but it is extremely important to wash the olives thoroughly before starting the process to remove all soil. Even a tiny amount will leave a taste, a "soil taste."

In the old method the olive is reduced to paste and the liquid in the paste is separated by the press. Decantation separates oil and water. Today a centrifuge can speed the later process and sterile machines can grind the olive to paste. An important aspect of grinding is to let the process last at least half an hour or a little more. This guarantees that the paste is well ground and for tiny drops of oil to coalesce into larger drops. It also allows fruit enzymes in the olive to act upon the mix which produces some of the aroma and taste unique to certain types of olive.

There are still advantages to using grind stones if properly cleaned. Much has to do with not letting enzymes in the nut and skin to act on the mash while its own enzymes do. In the end getting olives to processing promptly and cleaning thoroughly are the most important early steps.

A Practical Example

The Spanish company, Espacios Verdes, is planning to take part in the Algerian olive tree initiative. It will plant 1,500 hectares of which a third will be offered to private investors on a partial interest payment, partial sharing of production agreement. As part of this project the company will build an olive oil processing plant in Algeria. Having a processing plant close to the harvest will be crucial in the production of high quality olive oil.

Through its subsidiary, Desert Vert, Espacios Verdes will plant the Arbequinia olive on its project. This olive is especially adapted to a hyper intensive planting technique where 1,780 trees can be planted per hectare. The Arbequinia olive gives up twenty percent weight per volume of oil out of a much as 11,000 kilograms of olive per hectare. Because this type of olive starts to produce as early as three years instead of five, oil is being processed after the third year. This small brown olive can produce as much as 2,090 liters of high-quality oil known for its buttery texture and peppery finish.

The use of a modern facility by Desert Vert will help to assure production of high quality oil suitable for export and sale at premium prices. It has always been possible to produce olive oil from olives in many parts of Algeria. However, the lack of sufficient processing facilities has been a hindrance to the production of export quality oils. Even when there are facilities the facilities may not have to capacity to process large quantities at harvest time. Thus olives sit and wait, enzymes act on the fruit and acidity rises. The presence of a modern processing plant will make the difference between low grade olive oil sold locally and that exported at premium prices across the world.

The Desert Vert project is using an olive that originated in the Middle East. However, the arbequinia olive is named for a town in Spain near in the Mediterranean coast in Catalonia. When the company was in the early planning stages of its project it consulted experts at the University of Cordova in Spain. The question was what olive variety would be most suited to the soil and growing conditions in Algeria where Desert Vert is going to plant. The company was also interested in planting a vigorous olive variety and would be resistant to drought and to cold as these extremes could destroy in one season or one night the years of work in developing a productive orchard. The Arbequinia olive came out on top as a suggested variety because it produces well, has high quality oil, grows well and fast from cuttings, and is tolerant of environmental extremes including salty soil.

As the project progresses Desert Vert and its investors will profit from the production of high quality oil promptly extracted from olives grown in Algeria's million hectare plantation project. Prompt milling will be assured by Desert Vert's own processing plant.

Debunking the Myth of the Oil Crisis

The opening years of the 21st century are marked by milestones in the world of oil: the war in Iraq, the Shell reserves downgrade, Hurricane Katrina, and the breaking of the once unthinkable $100 per barrel barrier. Many have seized on these events as evidence that we are crossing the threshold of 'peak oil'. Behind us, a century and a half of abundant, cheap oil that fuelled industrial civilization and brought unparalleled prosperity to a fortunate global minority. Ahead of us, permanent declines in oil production, scarce and unaffordable energy, wars over dwindling resources, disastrous climate change, perhaps the collapse of modern society. But these ideas are based on misconceptions, flawed reasoning, and excessive pessimism. The world has abundant oil and gas for decades to come, geopolitical conflicts can be avoided by adroit policies, and we can learn to use hydrocarbons without unacceptable environmental damage.

We have been here before. In 1865, the economist William Jevons warned that Britain’s global supremacy would shortly be ended by the exhaustion of its coal mines. The pioneering conservationist Gifford Pinchot wrote in 1910 that "our supplies of iron ore, mineral oil and natural gas are being rapidly depleted, and many of the great fields are already exhausted". There were further predictions of imminent oil decline from industry geologists in 1885, 1919 and 1956, from Jimmy Carter in 1977, from the US government in 1980. A prominent 'peak oiler', Colin Campbell, claimed in 1989 that oil output had peaked; another, Kenneth Deffeyes, put the peak date, rather precisely, at December 16th 2005.

The current high prices certainly seem to give some credibility to the idea that we are approaching some fundamental limit of oil resources. But we should remember how we arrived at this situation, since the culprit is not constraints on oil in the ground: it is the long 1986-98 period of low prices and under-investment. Low prices decimated the oil industry, while the rise of energy-hungry new powers in Asia, combined with robust demand in the developed world and geopolitical upsets in major producers, stealthily ate up spare production capacity. The inevitable result, perhaps amplified by ‘speculation’ and market nervousness, has been a so-far inexorable rise in the oil price.

This price rise is not driven, then, primarily by geology. But many commentators outside the energy business, and some within it, believe high oil prices vindicate their often-repeated claims that 'peak oil' is imminent. Supporters of this view point to the work of the American geologist M. King Hubbert, whose seminal 1956 paper prophesied a peak in US output by 1965-1970 (the actual year was 1970), a success often taken to prove that oil depletion must follow 'Hubbert's Curve'. Yet when applied to other countries, 'Hubbert's Curve' and its variants are at best approximately right, but frequently wildly wrong.

Predictions of the date of 'peak oil' require some estimate of the amount of oil reserves known today, and the quantity to be found in the future. Believers in imminent depletion state that global reserves, particularly in the OPEC countries, are heavily over-stated, that exploration success is falling well short of replacing production, and that technology does not unlock significant new oil. These assumptions imply that we are on the cusp of producing half of our ultimate total of oil. Hubbert’s method therefore predicts imminent decline.

Although a few countries may be over-estimating their reserves, comprehensive industry databases suggest that, if anything, the aggregate official figures are somewhat low. OPEC's upgrades in the mid-1980s are mostly reasonable given prior conservatism, exploration success and advances in technology. Lack of recent exploration success is due to limited effort during the low-price era, and to restrictions on access to promising areas like major OPEC countries, Russia and the US offshore. In any case, huge recent discoveries in areas like deepwater Brazil confound the pessimists. 'Reserves growth' is a real and major phenomenon in many major oil regions, not an artefact of conservative reporting -- the best place to look for new oil is in oil fields, with fresh ideas and methods.

'Unconventional' oil is becoming conventional, and making up a growing proportion of supply. Output from the famous 'oil sands' of Canada is growing rapidly; heavy oil all around the world is attracting new attention, from the UK to Russia to Saudi Arabia to Congo. Liquid fuels can be made from abundant coal and gas. 'Second generation' biofuels, from non-food crops, promise to overcome the problems of rising food prices, while the trillions of barrels in oil shales may be on the verge of being unlocked. And a wide swathe of oil demand can be substituted by abundant natural gas, which, even more than oil, is nowhere near 'peak', and which emits much less carbon dioxide.

Nor is geopolitics the insuperable threat it is made out to be. The abundance and geographic dispersal of unconventional oil and other energy sources renders a long-term oil embargo self-destructive. Nor is the Middle East rabidly hostile to the West and keen to wield the 'oil weapon', despite xenophobic claims. Modern 'resource wars' cannot pay for themselves, as the Iran-Iraq war and the recent Iraqconflict amply demonstrate. Terrorism is not capable of disrupting the long-term energy picture -- as long as it does not provoke its victims into ill-conceived retaliation. The military, practical and political difficulties of blocking the 'choke-points' of international oil trade are widely under-estimated. 'Energy independence' cannot be attained at acceptable cost by any large consuming or producing nation. Retreats into paranoid self-sufficiency threaten a re-run of the grim 1930s; energy security can only be achieved, or at least improved, by a balance between the needs of exporters and importers, and a web of mutual inter-dependency.

Even the serious environmental problems associated with fossil fuel extraction and use, particularly some unconventional sources, can be tackled by new technologies, incentivised by policies to make the 'polluter pay'. The environmental impact of modern oil extraction, even in sensitive areas such as offshore or in the Arctic, is much less than generally imagined. The very real threat of climate change requires a portfolio of solutions. A key one is 'carbon sequestration', the locking away of carbon dioxide in underground reservoirs, a method that can also liberate additional oil and gas. Despite claims to the contrary, all the components of carbon sequestration are proven; they need only to be put together on a large, repeatable scale.

Energy efficiency and renewable energy are key components of the fight against both climate change and the phantom of oil depletion. A growing economy and living standards would be possible even in the face of declining oil use. 'Neo-Luddite' calls for the end of industrial civilization are, if taken seriously, both naïve and apocalyptic. In this sense, oil will never 'run out'; it will be replaced by something better. That is the best and most positive reply to Jevons' fears about the 'end of coal', and to the modern peak oil movement.

In 1946, joined the People's Liberation Army and worked in the Cultural Troupe of the No. 12 army crops.

In 1955 was admitted to the Central Academy of Fine Arts and studied in the training course of Soviet expert Maksimov's painting;
In 1957, acted as a fine art staff at the creation studio of the General Political Ministry of Culture.
In 1962, was transferred to the Chinese People's Revolution Military Museum to engaged in creating of Fine Arts.
In1980, He Kongde assumed the office of the deputy director of creation studio of the Military Museum and retired in 1987

Mr. He Kongde died in 2003, before death he was one of members and managing directors of Chinese Artists Association, as well as vice chairman of the Oil Painting Art Committee and national first grade artist.

Artist He Kongde is good at oil painting and watercolor painting. Bill Mack Original Art – Come See Relief Sculpture at Its Finest

Bill Mack is certainly a phenomenon in the art world. Viewing his relief sculpture is moving and evokes an emotional response. He has no mentor and you can't learn the techniques from a simple art class. Bill Mack has created his original art for decades now, and the influence he has had on the contemporary art world is fittingly quite substantial.

Bill Mack began his art career quite by accident. At the age of 17, he was working for a company that made bronze dedication tablets. Is the oil skimmed off the surface of the Gulf of Mexico when cleaning up the BP oil spill usable?

If someone skims crude oil from the surface of the Gulf of Mexico, can that crude oil be used / sold the same way as oil pumped from an oil rig?

2 stroke mercury 90 hp engine keeps beeping, oil is full, what can the cause be?

We have a 2002 2 stroke Mercury engine that will intermittently beep and cause the rpms to drop. It does this for a few minutes, then runs like a champ. At one point we overfilled the oil tank and it leaked all over, but the oil level is fine now. Could we have messed up a sensor or a float? Is it bad to keep driving it like this?

Would sesame oil work great for outdoor tanning oil?

i agree with the bad chemicals 10000000000000% but i dont know about seaseme oil. At organic/health stores you can get organic tanning lotion. Thats what i do, the brand I have is Alba Botanica. i love it
