2010 Oscar Nominees Announced

This morning Anne Hathaway and Academy President Tom Sherak were on hand to announce the nominees for the 2010 Academy Awards. Avatar and The Hurt Locker each had the most nominations, nine apiece, including Best Picture. Also included in the Best Picture top 10 were surprises like District 9 and The Blind Side, as well as A Serious Man, Inglourious Basterds, An Education, Precious, Up and Up in the Air.

Inglourious Basterds was just behind in the nominations tally with eight, while Precious and Up in the Air snagged six each and Up, surprisingly enough for an animated film, scored four.

Surprises included the snubbing of Invictus in Best Picture, despite the fact that Morgan Freeman and Matt Damon both scored acting nominations, and the inclusion of Maggie Gyllenhaal in Best Supporting Actress for her performance in Crazy Heart. I was thrilled to see In the Loop score a Best Original Screenplay nomination, though a little sad to see it apparently at the expense of (500) Days of Summer. The Best Original Score category got a little wacky too, with longshots like the scores for Fantastic Mr. Fox and Sherlock Holmes sneaking in– both excellent choices, of course.

How to make sense out of Adsense

If you are just starting out in internet marketing, one of the ways to create a revenue stream or monetize your Web site is to display contextual ads from a number of advertising networks. By far the most prominent and popular with affiliates is Adsense, a program run by Google. If you haven't enrolled yet and you are in Internet Marketing, make a point of reading this article and then go to Google and sign-up. It's free and it is part of any affiliate marketers tool kit.

Before you do sign up, there are some things you need to know as you consider putting these ads on your site.

First off, the Web page on which you want to place these ads should be theme based and rich in content. Google ads are based on the content of a page and the geographic location of the customer, so there has to be a way for the ad to relate directly to the information you are displaying. For example, if your site is about a breed of dogs, Adsense will place ads that directly bear on the care or business that relates to that breed of dogs and has some bearing on dog care and maintenance.

Make sure your content is focused and target one or two keywords or keyword phrases; that will ensure that the search engine will serve more relevant ads and increase the chance of clicks for which you get paid. That is how you monetize your site.

Ad Placement and Format Choice

There are some rules of thumb to respect however when placing ads. For example, it is not a good idea to place Adsense on your homepage. Van Gogh Owns the Sunflower

Many artists have their own personal favorite motives, which they paint numerous times. I am not here talking about silk screens and other things that made the numerous images generated by e.g. Andy Warhol famous. Rather I am talking about truly painting the same type of motive over and over again. It can be done for numerous reasons, from an interest in the specific subject to an exploration of e.g. the effects of light.
 
Sometimes, the study makes the subject so tied to the specific artist that they are hard to separate. Paintings by other artists of the same motive seem less relevant. Claude Monet for instance owned the Water Lily. He painted them in his garden in Giverny hundreds of times. However, even though it was also painted by Monet, the sunflower belongs to Vincent Van Gogh. Van Gogh took a liking to the flower, which he had also seen Gauguin paint, and created a whole series of paintings depicting the sunflower. The most famous among these very similar works is probably Vase with Fifteen Sunflowers painted by Van Gogh in 1888.

There is a depth to the paintings that allow them to grow on you and expand in the expressive impression the longer you gaze upon it. Add to that the thick brush strokes of Van Gogh that allows the flowers to reach out of the canvas towards you, and the effect is almost hypnotic. At the same time, the richness of the colors, typical of Van Gogh but no less extraordinary for that, speaks to you and brings across the warmth and almost joyous nature of the flowers.

Van Gogh himself was also very pleased with these paintings. He wrote to his brother Theo:

"It is a kind of painting that rather changes in character, and takes on a richness the longer you look at it. Besides, you know, Gauguin likes them extraordinarily. He said to me among other things - 'That...it's...the flower.' You know that the peony is Jeannin's, the hollyhock belongs to Quost, but the sunflower is somewhat my own."

Indeed his own it was. Both Monet and Gauguin painted Sunflowers as well, but neither reached the richness and depth achieved on several occasions by Van Goghs work. The sublime mastery of this motive made it his own.

Being among the most celebrated works of one of the worlds most celebrated artists of course also means that such Sunflowers do not come cheap. Indeed, one version was sold at Christies in 1987 for USD 40 million. At that time, this was a record setting sum to be paid for a painting. However, there are also copies available at places that can be accessed through a simple entrance fee. The Vase With Fifteen Sunflowers can for instance be found at the National Gallery in London, England. Visiting this classic yet ever modern piece of art is certainly worth the trip there. And if London is not your thing, versions can be seen at museums from Tokyo to Amsterdam, Munich to Philadelphia and beyond. You should see it. It is living art history and it is worth it.

Female Nudes Painted With Unusual Shapes

The Italian painter Amedeo Modigliani had two things in the fullest intensity: one was the art of painting and another his poverty. Both played vital roles in his short and artistic life. The contemporary painters like Toulouse-Laytrec, Georges Rouault, Paul Cezanne and Pablo Picasso were his favourite and had influenced his art. Deliberate distortion of the figure of the subjects, large spaces covered by the colours, and the free use of flat areas of colour: these were the characteristics of Modigliani’s paintings.

Though he painted very beautiful portraits of unknown and famous people, but his fame came from the paintings of female nudes. Modigliani’s female nudes had unusual faces. Instead of natural looking faces he preferred depicting flat and mask like faces. He painted the eyes of his models, the nude females', eyes mostly of almond shape. He painted the noses of females a bit twisted. In most of his artistic nude paintings he painted the stretched out neck of the female nudes. It is noteworthy that Modigliani’s female nudes’ paintings had captivating arrangement of curvy lines and flat planes. He had executed in his nudes the striking idealization of feminine sexuality.

His occasional brushes with solid art of sculpture helped him. It was due to his friendship with Constantin Brancusi that helped him to infuse in paintings the aspects like strong linear rhythms, simple stretched out forms, and notable verticality.

Is Adhd Treatable? -Ugly Lies And Rumors

'Is ADHD treatable?' is one of the first questions parents ask when given the diagnosis for their child. The answer is that while ADHD symptoms can be managed and treated to a certain extent, there is actually no cure. Some children grow out of it while others continue into adulthood.

In asking 'is ADHD treatable', many parents do not realize that there is a strong chance that their children may also have co-morbid condition such as depression, anxiety or a conduct disorder. Estimates put this possibility at 50%.

One of the lies which persists about 'is ADHD treatable' is the assumption that the powerful mind altering drugs are the answer and the only answer. This is misleading to say the least. While the psychostimulants which are mostly amphetamines can and do often relieve symptoms of hyperactivity and inattention, they certainly do not cure this condition. It is strange but sadly true that other alternative ADHD remedies hardly get a look in. Let us take behavior modification, for example. A University of Buffalo study by William Pelham and Gregory Fabiano shows that this is the most effective treatment and can easily be combined with some medication. Yes, behavior modification is only considered as a later option when the question 'can ADHD be treated' is asked. It should be the very first one as no medication will resolve parenting issues, especially in the case of ADHD.

There is a rumor which still persists in many circles that ADHD is due to just bad parenting. This is completely false but it must be said that successful parenting through behavior modification is actually one of the ways to manage ADHD.

There are new interesting areas of study which are neither lies nor rumors. One of these is neurofeedback. The ADHD child has to play a type of computer game and his ability to use his concentration will determine whether he can play the game successfully or not. The child gets immediate feedback and can see when his brainwaves are actually helping him to play the game. This is a sort of brain training but results have shown that the levels of concentration improve and that other ADHD symptoms diminish.

Handling ADHD Issues - 4 Things Parents Must Know

Bell Helicopter, Zip Aviation Announce New Addition to Fleet and Expanded Service From 30th Street in Manhattan

Zip Aviation has taken delivery of its first Bell Helicopter 206L Long Ranger and plans

to use the helicopter for charter service from Manhattan's West 30th Street

Heliport. This will be the first time for a Bell helicopter to be flown from the 30th St.

Heliport.

Itai Shoshani, owner of Zip Aviation stated, "We are very excited about the

Software firms in India require experts in commercial fine arts as ‘Graphic Equalisers’.

Apart from working in India, one can also explore career options abroad. One can organize exhibitions and auction his creations abroad. Then, there is an option to conduct various workshops on fine arts and its related fields. Other related option is to be art critic and write reviews for various art magazines which are quite popular abroad. Thus, there is no dearth of job options for skilled and trained artists in creative arts, fine arts and commercial arts. After a course from a good institute, one can land a job with either a good company or work on his/her own and earn name, fame and wealth. This field can give one high visibility and recognition with one good piece of art.

Is A Balcony Worth It?

As a veteran cruiser, I have experienced cabins of all kind – inside, outside and balconies. The question always becomes is the cost of a balcony worth it? My answer is yes depending on the type, length and itinerary of your cruise.

I have been on numerous cruises over the past 30 years or so and I always remember my first. It was a five day cruise to Bermuda and the Bahamas with my family. Being a first time cruiser and wanting to save a few dollars, we booked an inside stateroom. During the day it did not seem all that bad because we were in and out of the cabin a lot and there was always lights available at the flip of a switch. However, nighttime was a different story. It was pitch black when we went to bed and we felt like we were hermetically sealed in a dark cave. We even went so far as to leave the bathroom door open at night to provide us with some light, which was fine until we hit some stormy waves coming into port. It became a choice of being surrounded in darkness or listening to the slamming of the door after each wave hit. After that experience, I vowed I would not stay in a cabin without some sort of window to the outside world. 

On my next cruise, my wife and I had an outside cabin, which was definitely an upgrade, but then we graduated to the next step – the balcony. Our first experience with a balcony was wonderful. We were on a seven day Caribbean cruise and it was really great to be able to go out onto our little verandah when we wanted to escape from all the hustle and bustle on the Lido Deck. My way of relaxing on a cruise is to be able to enjoy a good book with a tropical cocktail in hand while immersing myself in the sound of the ocean and the warmth of the sun.  The Lido Deck does not always allow you this relaxation because there are so many distractions such as people splashing in the pool, the ongoing shipboard activities, and let's not forget your ever solicitous beverage steward who lives in fear that you might dehydrate if he is not offering you a drink every five minutes.  You also have the advantage of having your own deck chairs. Often times when you go to the Lido Deck just to hang out and enjoy the sights and sounds, you are unable to find a seat as everything is first come, first served around the pool and the buffet lines.

One of the few disadvantages to having a balcony is the close proximity of your fellow passengers. You need to keep in mind that the cabins are very close to one another so you need to be a little discreet out there. I recall on one of our cruises our cabin was located between two related families who were sailing from Miami to the Bahamas to attend their daughter's wedding. The bride's parents were on side and the bride on the other. One evening in the wee hours, the bride was celebrating her upcoming nuptials and she and her friends were on their balcony laughing and singing and not too concerned about the volume -- or the content -- of their conversation. All in all, it was probably a lot more information then we needed to know about the bride and her fiancee.

Since that first balcony cruise, we have been on several other cruises. Not all of these trips did we take advantage of a balcony for various reasons. On our Alaskan cruise, we did and I would highly recommend it. My wife and I were celebrating our anniversary on this cruise and believe me there is nothing like enjoying a special champagne breakfast on your balcony while you view snow capped mountains and glaciers. However, when we took a three day cruise to the Bahamas, we chose not to have a balcony simply because it was a quick weekend getaway and we put that extra money toward shore excursions and other activities.

So is a balcony worth it?  The choice is yours but remember, it can be the best decision you make to enjoy your vacation cruise just a little more.

Editors Guide To Ocean City, Maryland

Having visited Ocean City as a child, than as a parent, and now living here with my grandchildren has given me a unique look at what Ocean City has to offer. From a day trip to a yearly vacation I will offer my advice on things I have enjoyed over the years.

Things have changed over the course of 50 years but not as much as you may think. Gone are the sand dunes and wilderness that existed north of 60th Street when I was a child. They have been replaced with high-rise condominiums, strip malls, hotels, restaurants, and residential buildings of every possible configuration.

The boardwalk now runs from the Inlet at the southern edge of Ocean City to 26th Street. Most of the "action" is from 4th Street-south. If you want to stay where the action is I recommend staying on the boardwalk. This is a great area if you have teenagers or just like the hustle and bustle atmosphere. Even the boardwalk can be further broken down by just how much action you want. The further you get from the inlet the more relaxed the boardwalk becomes. While not everyone likes the same entertainment, I'm going to assume that the major reason for coming to Ocean City is the ocean. Our beaches are fairly consistent throughout Ocean City with fairly wide expanses, very clean, and lifeguards stationed every block with communication systems connecting the entire beach. The one major exception to this is from the inlet to about 6th Street; this area has an extremely wide beach area with volleyball and play areas. This is good for daily visitors and children but difficult for the elderly and handicapped. Access to the beach from the end of the boardwalk-north is limited to paths made through the sand dunes at the end of each street. Rentals of chairs, umbrellas, and boogie boards are available on every block entrance to the beach (as of this writing). There are plenty of places to eat lunch all along the boardwalk but make other plans for lunch if you stay off the boardwalk. See beach rules for a list of do's and don'ts.

To get away from the action and have a more relaxed day at the beach I recommend Assateague Island State and Assateague Island National Park. Although the actual park starts at the inlet you must drive about 15 minutes to get to the parks entrances. Take Route 50 west, than Route 611 south. Route 611 ends at Assateague Island. Here you will find the State Park and the National Park. The State Park is somewhat more expensive to enter but has a snack bar. I personally prefer the National Park because it has more to offer. While the State Park is limited to a snack bar, the National Park has canoe rentals; tours, a crabbing pier, and a 4 wheel drive only area (permit required). Fires are allowed on the beach at night from the low tide mark to the high tide mark. Both areas offer lifeguarded beaches, picnic tables, grills, rest rooms, and showers. Campsites are available at both parks but advanced reservations are almost always required.

Entertainment doesn't stop at the beach.                                                                       

The boardwalk offers rides, games, arcades, shops, and of course food for the kid in all of us. Here again, the action is centered from 1st Street to the inlet. To entertain the kids and the kids at heart I would suggest Splash Mountain at 30th Street and Coastal Hwy. There are several types of water slides, a lazy river, a wave pool, snack bars, and my favorite the Rain Forest. The Rain Forest is fun for everyone; it has super sized squirt guns to shoot people as they walk by (my favorite-I get in battles with people from 6 to 60), water slides, a giant pirate hat that slowly fills and dumps its contents on everyone below, and water squirting at you from everywhere. Trust me; this giant sized water version of a jungle gym is worth the admission price by itself. It is so fun that the lifeguards wear rain hats and coats.

For the adults there are nightclubs catering to every age group and bars with many different themes. Seacrets is so popular with young adults that it has its own radio station while Fager's Island is popular with the more sophisticated crowd. In between is everything from karaoke to beach bars.

A rainy day can be spent; going to the movies, going shopping, visiting the indoor pools located at many hotels, sitting on your balcony watching the ocean, taking a day trip to historic Berlin, Md., or just enjoying a long lunch at one of the waterfront restaurants.

Dinner in Ocean City for most of us is kind of like Family Feud. There are so many choices and nobody ever feels like the same thing at the same time. My family starts discussing dinner plans early so reservations can be made if required. During the peak season keep in mind that lines at popular restaurants can be long (even if the food is just so-so). My personal recommendations are: 1-Marina Deck, excellent crab soup and seafood dishes, and it's on the water 2-Waterman's Seafood Restaurant, very good crab feast and seafood 3-Nick's Original House of Ribs, very good ribs and beef 4-Harpoon Hanna's, very good seafood and on the water (service somewhat slow) 5-The Crabcake Factory USA, the best crab cakes, 6-Higgins Crab House, very good crabs and good seafood, 7-Bull on the Beach, excellent pit beef and good beef entrees, 8-Adolofo's Italian Restaurant, excellent Italian dishes (expensive), 9-Embers Restaurant, very good seafood and prime rib buffet, 10-Ponzetti's Pizza, my favorite pizza, 11-Lombardi's, another good pizza and Italian restaurant, 12-Sakura, excellent Japanese steak house, 13-Phillip's Crab House, good seafood (worth a visit but no longer the best seafood in Ocean City), 14-Outback Steakhouse, the same food you get at home but it's good when you get tired of trying new places. These are my favorite restaurants. There are many great choices and many different ideas about what a good meal is. A good restaurant to me is a combination of very good to excellent food with reasonable prices, good service, and a varied menu for the entire family. Painting Nude Females - A Perspective With Natural Beauty

Painting human body, especially female nudes, has remained a favourite model for the artists since the primitive age. While choosing a model for the art, the artist of various fields do it for many purposes. The painters choosing human bodies as their models keep certain theories in their minds. Take the case of the radiating paintings of Venus. The nude paintings of Venus, the Goddess of love, personify love and harmony. In many a paintings she is shown with Mars, the God of war. The idea behind such depiction is to show the effort of love and the sense of harmony to restraint the impulse leading us to war. The purpose of the artist here is to pacify the warmonger living within us.

By selecting the female nude as model for their art-pieces, the artists desire to connect themselves with the viewers emotionally. The painters wish convey the exact feeling they encounter while looking at the nude object. During the ancient time, whether it may be the paintings of Venus or work done on the alters of churches, the artists' primary motive remained the adoration of the beauty of human body, especially of the female body.

But by selective the women's body, mostly as the base for depiction of their art, the painters always encounter the difficulties attached with the complexity and the stigma attached with the figurative painting in general and the painting women's body in particular.

The master painter have tried depicting stories, mainly mythological through such paintings. Once we know the story depicted through the painting, the imagination that a painter had in mind becomes identified or clearer to our minds. After that the details of a paintings function as written words in a book.

The artists of the western countries, mainly European, seem unusually preoccupied with the painting of nude persons, women and men alike. They have made the human body an important, a key building block of their art. In Eastern countries, barring India, the nude paintings are still a taboo.

In modern time, the subject of ‘Painting The Nude' has undergone a gradual liberation from academic constraints. However there were master painters in past, too, who painted both male and female nude figures and adorned the beauty of the human bodies.

Liquid Alchemy Lab's Nude Alpha: A Dabbling with the Nude Alpha Pheromone

It appears as if Liquid Alchemy Labs, the creators of Aqua Vitae have done it again! Garry Nelson's Hawaii based perfumery has designed a forceful pheromone fragrance product by request from, and developed for, "experienced pheromone enthusiasts".This specific brew is called Nude Alpha for Men.

Well, lets definitely say this stuff ain't your Grand Daddy's Old Spice! Nude Alpha is as good as an embellished version of Nude, the earliest well regarded fragrance product created by Liquid Alchemy. From my 5 weeks of use, I can so far say that Nude Alpha packs one hell of a punch, this spinoff will emerge to be a true contender, of that I'm rather certain!

Now, as was the sample with Aqua Vitae, Liquid Alchemy still is quite tight lipped in regard to the particular ingredients embedded within all their pheromone products. They are unmistakably on to something in my view, and wholly do not want to expose their brew to competing labs, which makes perfect sense to me. However, after a certain quantity of protracted use of Nude Alpha, a half way competent pheromone fan can unambiguously conclude which pheromone compounds are being applied simply by reading the reactions of others near him.

So what is Nude Alpha for Men? In my estimation Nude Alpha is a particularly effective, substantially well balanced hybrid pheromone fragrance. It tends to behave like an potent social lubricator that has more than that embedded a healthy application of pure Alpha Male generated "sexual attraction." So in this respect, it's for all practical purposes as if the wearer has mixed the Scent of Eros with conceivably something like Alfa Maschio.This is as a matter of fact an imperfect comparison of course, even so it is relatively close!
