Luxury Venice Vacations Offering A Taste Of Northern Italy

Venice vacations make you think of canals, art galleries and palaces, and that is exactly what you get. However, you can also have entertainment and fun, and don't forget the delicious Italian cuisine, including their famous wines. Many people vacation in Venice for while, and then move base to visit other parts of Northern Italy that we shall come to shortly.

A vacation in Venice is best enjoyed if you receive personal attention, with your own private car and boat - not shared between you and 50 others all with their own agendas. The gallery of St. Marks' church contains the bronze horses of Constantinople, brought to Venice during the Second Crusade of 1147 - 1149 among other artistic treasures.

The lagoon is home, not only to Venice, but also to some major islands including Murano, famous for its glass. If you want to make the most of your Venice vacation, don't fail to visit the magnificent glass museum with some unbelievable works made from blown glass, or check out the Byzantine mosaics in the church of Santa Maria Assunta on the island of Torcello. Another of the lesser known areas to tourists is the Squero de San Trovaso where you can see gondolas being built and repaired at the boatyard, one of the very few left in Venice, a major city that used to be one of the greatest maritime cities in Europe.

Venice is famous for its palaces, although most have been converted to hotels, and if you can, try to get a room in one of these. The architecture is breathtaking and most of the rooms are huge, although many have been reduced in size to accommodate more guests. Another thing you must do when in Venice is to visit the surrounding area of Veneto - Venice is the capital city of this Italian region. You might not have time to visit Verona, of Romeo and Juliet fame, but you should visit Vicenza.

No Venice vacations should miss Vicenza, the birthplace of Palladio, arguably the most influential architect of all time. It is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and The Rotunda in the town is typically Palladio. The Teatro Olimpico is Europe's oldest indoor theatre, and there are many more Palladio buildings in this picturesque town. If you do have time to visit Verona, apart from the Shakespeare connection (The Two Gentlemen of Verona, as well as Romeo and Juliet) you will a find a well preserved Roman amphitheatre here - the Arena. This is currently used for outdoor concerts. If you like Roman remains, Padua is another old Roman city close by. I suppose Roman cities in Italy should not be surprising!

Most people on Venice vacations like to try some of the great Italian wines grown in the region, such as Soave, Bardolino and Valpolicella. In fact, it is best to leave Venice once you have visited what you want to see, and change base to visit other parts of northern Italy. The vineyards and wineries around here welcome visitors to come in and have a taste.

Milan too is a must, particularly if you are fashion conscious, and if you get the chance to visit Lake Como, then take it. This Y shaped lake is the third largest lake in Italy and one of the deepest in Europe with the bottom about 656 feet below sea level. There are a lot of good hotels around here, particularly around Lake Maggiore that has some great little islands you can explore, and you don't have to remain in Venice if you want to enjoy the north of Italy in general.

Venice vacations have a great deal to offer those interested in culture, particular architecture and other forms of physical art, but try to enjoy Venice in style. Personal attention is well worth getting, particularly after traveling all this way, and you can't beat your own personal guide, boat, car and business class flights to really make a holiday the luxury and pampered experience it should be. Make sure that you visit Northern Italy, and lake Como and Maggiore because they offer the simpler luxuries that can sometimes be overlooked during your Venice vacation.

The Reason Birds Can Fly

No doubt many bird lovers will be surprised to find out that many birds in the wild prefer to be on the ground, rather than the sky. And, in regions of the world where they are not threatened by predators, they actually spend most of their time on the ground.

As a matter of fact, if you go to places around the globe where birds have had no serious predators for centuries, you will very often find that some of the birds have evolved to where they either have no wings or they have wings that are almost useless in flight. This is because they no longer need the ability to fly to escape danger.

Because of this, they feel extremely at ease simply remaining on on the ground. After all, this is where they find most of their food. A perfect example of this is the well known ostrich which, over the years, has lost the ability to fly.

Today, among experts, it is widely accepted that dinosaurs are the ancestors of today's birds. Originally, smaller sized dinosaurs lived on the ground. Here they were at a disadvantage as they were forced to compete for food and survival over their larger cousins. Most of these smaller dinosaurs could not compete effectively and died out.

But others did survive. They evolved. Over the centuries they evolved wings. And with the wings came both the ability to effectively escape larger predators and to find easier sources of food where their larger brethren could not go. The acquisition of flight is what enabled many of these smaller dinosaurs to survive.

Over the centuries, birds have evolved certain evolutionary traits that allowed them to fly whereas mammals did not evolve these traits. One of them is that birds are almost always lighter in weight than comparatively sized mammals. If you were to compare just about any bird to a similarly sized earthbound mammal, you will discover that it probably weighs from two to four times less than the mammal. This is primarily due to its skeletal system which usually consists of hollow bones. The hollow bones are supported by internal struts which make them amazingly powerful.

Not only that, but a very large part of an average bird's body consists of air. Birds possess air sacs all through their bodies which, in addition to being great weight saving devices, allow them to utilize oxygen many times more efficiently than most mammals can.

Although, through the centuries, birds have evolved with many other weight saving features, for the most part, it is this lightness of weight that enables them to easily launch themselves into the air and stay aloft.

And, lastly, we come to the winds. Wings that have improved through evolution to be the perfect constructs that enable then to easily glide through the air with little or no turbulence.

Tips for Your Pet Birds First Month Home

For any new pet moving to a new home can be a very traumatic experience and in some cases even more so for a pet bird. Many times if bird was hand fed as a baby it may have stronger attachments then other birds. However if you take the time setting up your birds new environment properly with some extra care, it will a bit easier for your pet bird to make the adjustment to it's new home.

One of the most important things you should first do when you bring your new bird home is to place its cage in an area that does not have an over abundance of activity or confusion. Even though we are trying to make sure our new friend doesn't feel like he is caught up in the middle of all the household action. We also want to make sure that he does not feel all alone by putting him in some unused room by him self. Ideally you want to find a spot in your home where he can still interact with you, but there won't be constant loud noises or lots of sudden movements that can continually startle him.

In situations where you already have another bird in your home, it would be best to segregate your new arrival for about thirty days. The reason you want to do this is to help ensure that if your new bird has an infectious disease, you won't infect your original bird. When creating a quarantine for your bird, it would be best to keep him on floor in a completely different room of the house. Also make sure to keep their food and water dishes apart and do not interchange them even after washing. If your home has a central air conditioning system, you may have difficulty being able to ensure a true quarantine. Since these kinds of air conditioning system employ air duct systems which carry the air from one room to other rooms in the house. Regardless it is still a good idea to quarantine the new bird than immediately putting exposing him to your original pet even if you have air ducts.

You should also make sure that any new bird you bring home is in good health. So be sure to take him to your local avian veterinarian for a general check up. Your veterinarian will be able to check and make sure that your new pet bird is free of any contagious diseases, worms or bacterial infections. This is even more important in cases were you have a hand fed baby bird, the reason being is that if the bird wasn't properly hand fed it is at a higher risk for having a bacterial infection.

When ever you bring a new bird home you should closely monitor their eating habits during their initial adjustment period. If you notice that your bird doesn't seem to be eating at all during the initial twenty four hours, you should try and offer him some spray millet. Spray millet is pretty much a dessert for birds. Another option is to offer him a whole grain cereal which may coax a frightened bird into eating. If you just brought home a newly weaned baby bird and he is not eating and is also making various squalling noises, your new bird may have regressed some and will need to be hand fed slightly longer. In these situations call your breeder for assistance.

If for some reason you cannot get in contact with your breeder, odds are you can buy some hand feeding formula from your local pet shop. To use the formula simply mix up a tiny quantity of the hand feeding formula until it reaches a consistency close to that of pudding. Then offer some of the mixture to your bird by putting some of the formula on a plastic spoon. If all is well he should eat it right off the spoon.

Lastly, you should not be afraid to interact with your new pet bird, just make sure you don't get out of hand and overdo it. At first you should only try to work with him for 10 minutes at a time and no more. If he continually flies away and you notice your self having to chase and catch him, Just put him away back in his cage for a bit until he starts to calm down. Every time you chase and catch your bird it cause him some stress, which is something we are trying to minimize for our new friend.

How to Stretch a Canvas Painting

Painting Canvas guide to canvas stretching.

Buying a modern reproduction, pop art canvas or portrait of your family or pet online is now an easy and affordable alternative to commissioning a painting from an artist. Many websites sell hand painted oil paintings for a fraction of the price of the originals and having your photos painted on canvas is a much classier option than simply having them printed onto canvas using an industrial printer. However most sites send you your paintings unstretched and rolled up and you must have them stretched, either by a framer or by yourself.

This guide will show you how easy canvas stretching is and how with a few tools you can stretch your own canvas painting for the price of a few staples and some stretcher bars.

You will need:

1. Stretcher bars suited to your canvas size. Stretcher bars are available online or in any DIY store, if you would rather make your own we will be doing a ‘how to make canvas stretcher bars tutorial' at a later date.
2. A staple gun (you will need a proper stable gun, one you use for attaching post it notes to each other will be ineffective) or tacks and a hammer.
3. A solid pair of pliers (not essential but can help to get that canvas really tight.)

Before we get started lets go through a few tips that will help you to make a success of your canvas stretching experience.

1. Be generous with the canvas, if possible get your reproduction or portrait painting supplier to add at least 7cm of border around your painting, this will make things much easier when it comes time to stretch it.
2. A nice clean surface to work on is essential to make sure your painting remains undamaged and in great condition.
3. Two hands are better than one. – While you can stretch a canvas by yourself it definitely helps to have a friend lighted the load, especially the first time.

Okay here we go:

1 Put the stretcher bars together.

Take your 4 bars and slide them together so the joints fit snugly, check to make sure they are at a right angle by using a right angle tool or a protractor. If you need to, you can use a hammer to get the joints tight but be gentle you don't want to damage the wood. To make them extra secure use glue to fix them in place and even a staple or two.

2 Prepare your Canvas

Lay your painting face down on a clean flat surface (a wooden work surface is perfect) place the stretcher frame on top so the frame is resting on the outline of the painting.

3 Start Stretching

Choose any side and pull the canvas over the stretcher bar. In the centre of the canvas put a staple then one either side of the original staple about an inch apart.

4 Now...

Move to the opposite side of the frame and pull the canvas over the corresponding bar. Pull it tight and put three more staples in.

5 Diagonals are the way to go

Now move to the middle of one of the sides of your painting that has not yet been stretched. Pull the canvas over and put in three more staples.

6 Complete the Cross

Move to the final side, pull it tight and add three more staples. Now your canvas should be attached to your frame in the centre of all four sides. If it is uneven or loose now is the time to pull out your staples and pull the canvas tighter.

7 Finishing the Sides

Now go back to your original starting side, pull the canvas as tight as you can (using pliers, a friend or even a friend with pliers can help you pull it extra tight) and staple one staple two inches to the right or left of the original three staples then move to the opposite side of the canvas and opposite side of the centre (diagonally across the painting) and put in another staple. Now move to the third side and do the same. Keep moving across and diagonally around your painting so that no side has more than one extra staple than any of the others at any one time. Staples should be placed about two inches apart, but if it is your first time you might want them closer to make sure your painting is stretched evenly. Remember to pull your canvas tight every time you put in a staple, this will mean the difference between a well stretched canvas and one that will sag. 8 The corners.

When you get to the corners fold one side over the other as tight as you can so it forms a triangle then put staples through both layers. A neater alternative are ‘hospital corners' if you know how to do them.

9 Inspection.

Your pet portrait, reproduction or piece of pop art canvas should now be firmly stretched around your bars and ready to hang on the wall. If it isn't then pull out your staples and start again, it is better to take another ten minutes to stretch your painting that have to wait another month to reorder one you have ruined.

IMAGINATION: THE POWER HOUSE OF A CREATIVE WRITER

Both are essential, vital, germane for good creative write-ups and emanate from a powerful imaginative bank. Day dreaming is perhaps one of the trace elements in the imaginative bank. Below is a simple example of how I've used my imagination to describe an unfolding event that paved the way for introducing a Nigerian movie legend :

The Movie Colosseum was unusually filled beyond its accredited seating capacity by movie lovers, critics and neutral viewers. Provocative arguments and sudden exchange of blows burst forth intermittently from different angles over the inconvenient seating positions offenders had strategically adopted. This caused the Colosseum to frown angrily. She took pride in her beauty and magnificence and sheepishly received the flattery remarks ‘men' constantly showered  unreservingly at her. She truly was a beauty to behold, dominating effortlessly on the African continent. She'd played host to the constant battles  between Movie gladiators  and their old time enemies (towering fellows born and raised in the art of anti- movie advancement). The latter had often times emerged triumphant over the former.

The late comers had been denied access to witness the day's battle. A rumour of a special power packed combat which promised to be explosive had been slated to go down in the Colosseum. A collective, swift mental calculation proffering an alternative solution in solving the dilemma was certainly far fetched and an impossible venture. The risk of climbing the outward structure of the Colosseum to get inside was to say the least a suicide mission, which caused them to abort the thought immediately. It would be frustrating to stand outside the gates listening to the deafening cheers, boos and ululating without seeing things firsthand. Having resolved  never to be latecomers anymore, they gradually dispersed to their respective ill-timed destinations. They would have to make do with the cheers, and juicy reports they would be fed later on with by those inside.

There was certainly a disproportionate mixed crowd inside the Colosseum,  comprising mostly of men, male youths and a minute proportion of females, ably representing the diverse ethnic groups, political and social classes in the country. The crowd within the belly of the Colosseum were treated for sometime to series of battles much to their delight, increasing the appetite to be visually fed by the main event. The moment they'd been waiting for finally came and thus began the fiercest combat between the Nigerian Movie gladiators and the callous, heartless opponents of Nollywood comprising of (underfunding, churned productions, prosaic hold, piracy, monotony, tribalism, and bias).

After ten minutes of  clashing, the allies of the Gladiators enemies (high predictability, technology deficiency, formulaic hold, re-cycled themes, trippy plots, and creative deficiency)were illegally released from the dungeons and rushed on to the arena to fortify and ensure that the gladiators lost. The battle raged on with the desire to survive and crush the other, until the gladiators began to fall under their swords at an alarming rate. The few, brave, undaunted ones, fought on, determined to shed their last drop of blood to ensure that posterity would not have to suffer the same fate. They felt weaker by the second, their physical strength betraying their good intentions and yearnings. The crowd was divided, some cheered the gladiators on while others encouraged their opponents to utterly wipe them out and repeat the  movie history of failure and dearth of it once more.

The gate on the west side suddenly flung open and in stepped a hooded man, with a quiver of arrows of experience strapped behind his back, and a cross bow. A sudden hush fell over the crowd as he walked slowly as though calculating his steps and halted some distance away from the enemies. Even the combatants for a few seconds  made him the subject of attention. He was dressed differently from the gladiators and they weren't certain whether he was a friend or foe. They reached a verdict that he wasn't on their side after communicating speedily in an incoherent language. One of them began to rush towards him in an attacking mode. He retrieved an arrow from his movie quiver, and nocked it in the center of  the bow string . He lifted his head and faced the target, raised the bow arm and then the string back, and aimed. His toughened hands reflected years of experience as a film archer, his eagle eyes riveted on the enemy, then without warning , he released the arrow. It struck through the enemy's heart, causing him to land with a great thud.

Quickly recovering from the shock, some of the furious ones charged  furiously at him, roaring like lions. Like the dexterity of Robin Hood, the stranger released the arrows, never for once did he miss the targets. The remaining gladiators spurred on by such act of bravery and accurate strikes were fired up, and charged at the remaining enemies, striking them down to the earth. Those that supported the gladiators went into a frenzy, shouting and jubilating at the victory. It was a sweet victory no doubt, but that wasn't the last they would hear about their opponents, as some of their offsprings watched angrily from the crowd and vowed to have their pound of flesh on the movie gladiators one way or the other. But who was the hooded man they began to ask?

The surviving Nigerian movie gladiators approached the hooded man to convey their appreciation for such timely movie saving  intervention. Having been urged from the survivors and the cheering crowd to reveal his identity, he slowly pulled back his hood. It was the renowned legend of film making in Nigeria, Tunde kelani who'd come to the rescue. A thunderous applause, coupled with shouts of admiration and gratitude from the crowd rocked the entire Colloseum and could be heard a mile away.

Writing creatively can really be fun at the end of the day when you get the hang of it. It may he hard initially but with constant practice, lots of personal development, you're sure of becoming a good creative writer, and of course a remarkable, outstanding author.

Alligators are not the only subjects for the portraits of one man as he also works on parakeets and a champion black angus and it has been growing into a thriving not to mention highly specialized art business. As he distinctly describes, ""If anyone wants a painting of their pet flea, I'll make one provided that there's a clear snapshot of it"". Today, he limits the work he does to dogs, cats, horses, birds, one alligator, and rabbits.

As a growing boy, he found joy in arts and animals. What the artists know is that making a decent living to support a wife and kid cannot be done by simply selling fine paintings. After moving to the Bay Area, he continued his studies and aimed at a career in commercial art. He delved into fine art as a hobby in World War II after opening his display business.

It was suggested by his wife that he develop his hobby into a business after he impressed a friend and his pair of siamese cats as he made a portrait of the felines that almost ruined it by purring and rubbing against it. When he went into the pet portrait painting business the resulting finances were impressive.

He launched his most current collection at the cow palace. That prompted a shower of commissions to paint portraits of a champion rabbit, fine show horses, and even a pet parakeet whose owner fondly explained she had raised it from an egg. There was a well known recording artist not to mention television actor singer who requested for a painting of his horse. Another thing he was asked to do was make a portrait of a winning black angus. He comments that it sometimes beats painting people portraits, the subjects don't kick usually.

In a big university in Santa Clara there is a new director of the gallery and museum and in San Jose she was the former director of a big museum and she took on the job after a reverend died early last month. She is also a renowned artist who exhibited nationally and locally at the palace of the legion of honor.

There will be an exhibit at a gallery in San Francisco displaying the works of a local sculptor. It is in the exhibit where thirty of his works will be displayed and these will cover neo classical to highly abstracted forms. Apart from conducting a ballet school, he is also a writer, photographer, and a highly talented artist. The movie spectre of a rose is one which he starred in. An exhibit of more than 200 objects, books, prints, paintings, sculptures, described as one of the most remarkable private art collections in America will remain on view at another famous museum.

There is a couple from Pennsylvania whose collection covers 50 years. It is a collection of scores of other historic greats and the works of a dozen famous painters. Interestingly enough, the husband began collecting books while still a student of Harvard, and expanded it over the years purchasing many of the more valuable objects on the installment plan.

Green Printing Facts To Consider In Order To Pick A Good Environmentally Friendly Printing Company

Helping the environment is important to most people right now, and for those in business, what better way to help than to use an environmentally friendly printing service for all your business printing needs, whether it be for Business Cards, Brochures, Annual Reports, or just a simple Newsletter.

In the current market however, few printers can be classified as eco friendly printing companies, with the majority of still running print processes that involve the use of plate developing and press chemicals.

Does the printing company have an environmental policy? If they do it should be available either through their website, in PDF format, or via email. A good eco print policy will set out how the company approaches ongoing assessment around the methods of eco friendly production and working practices, but will also set out specifics in the following areas.

2. Eco Friendly Paper

Is the printer FSC and PEFC Certified. This in itself confirms that the printing company prints on materials harvested through the sustainable management of forests. The FSC chain of custody tracks FSC certified material from the forest to the consumer, right the way through the production process.

Does the printing company recycle 100% of paper waste? Do they continually monitor machine set up sheets to ensure an ongoing reduction in press waste?

Apart from what inks are used in the process, have you ever considered the amount of ink a particular Typeface will use. Well a Dutch company called Spranq has developed a font called the ‘Ecofont™'. It may be worth asking your printer how and if this font would be usable for your particular print job. The font basically has circles left blank in the middle of each letter reducing ink usage by up to 25%, but whilst maintaining readability.

3. Environmentally Friendly Inks

A good eco friendly printer will be using vegetable based inks instead of inks that are oil based. With modern day 10 colour presses using vegetable inks check to see if the Inkline or similar system is in use. This can reduce the press ink that gets wasted by around 90%. Eco friendly printers will have the contaminated nozzles for the print cartridges recycled after use.

4. Printing Plates and Chemicals for Developing

Look for a printing company who have invested in process free plate making. This process allows the plates to develop on the printing press, and eradicates the need for all developing or fixing agents. With this process 100% of the aluminium plates can be recycled.

5. Chemicals Used On The Printing Press

Environmentally friendly printing companies will have eradicated most press chemicals, or they will have found environmentally friendly alternatives. Where alcohol free printing has not been fully implemented, low alcohol fountain solution is used which reduces alcohol usage to a very small percentage. Low alcohol fountain solution was specifically developed for medium to large sheet fed presses to reduce the alcohol usage, which in turn reduces harmful Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs)

6. Rags and Plastic In The Printing Process

When assessing your choice of Eco Printing Company, ask them what they do about plastic pallet wrapping and pallet strapping which represents the majority of the plastic a print company has to deal with. As with contaminated ink nozzles, all other plastic will be recycled by an environmentally responsible printing company.

Worth questioning is what materials are used for cleaning of the presses. Paper wipes can not be recycled if contaminated with even the smallest amount of chemicals. Eco friendly printers will be using rags that they will have collected and laundered for reuse on an ongoing basis.

With adherence to the above practices a good Eco Print company will be able to reduce their possible landfill waste by 80% or more in comparison to other printers, so if you wish to help the environment, invest in green printing solutions by using an eco friendly printing company.

I have been mostly self employed since the age of 14 (the last 20 years)…mainly because I wasn't willing to settle for the wages and satisfaction that a regular job pays….and because I had little interest in selling out of my own dreams at the expense of helping someone else achieve theirs (the bosses). I figured, and still believe to this day, that win/win opportunities existed all around us….that there was always a way for ME to get EVERYthing that I wanted in my life….while helping everyone around me get what they wanted in theirs…..and I was right.

I could probably tell you a lot of interesting things about me…about my life. Places I have traveled too….unique experiences and people that I have met over the years…. Different businesses I have started, grown, run, sold ect ect. Different dreams and goals I have had….the list goes on. But for the sake of this short article….let me pick up about 3 years ago. I was 31 years old….in a little over a year…I had acquired (all legitimately and legally) about 70 properties….and a net worth of about 3 and a half million dollars. I was a millionaire….I could hardly believe it…but it was true. Then after 2005...our real estate market SCREETCHED to a halt….the market just stopped…..I rushed to sell all of my properties for about what was owed on them….getting out of most of them in time…but 14 homes going all the way to foreclosure. I had the fricken' wind knocked out of me…..at least financially. I had always made really good money…but never like that. I took this one hard. As much as I wanted to believe that money just wasn't that big of a deal….it had afforded me a lot of nice things…things that I no longer wanted to live without…million dollar homes….oceanfront property….private jet trips….travel ALL OVER the place…often….usually 20-30 weeks per year…new corvettes every year…new motorcycles and other toys on a whim….steak dinners every night…or at least whenever I wanted them. And most importantly…it had given me the ability to give and give HUGE…..things like donating 100 new bicycles when the church would do a bike drive….giving away cars to people in need (nice ones too) on a half a dozen occasions….sending people on vacations that needed it….tithing thousands of dollars each week….sending friends to the airport in limousines that had simply asked me for a ride to the airport….and the list goes on and on. My heart STILL longs to do these kind and helpful things again….to serve and love my fellow neighbors.

So when I lost it all….it hit me hard…real hard. I began spiraling into a deep depression….something I had never struggled with before in my life….I had always maintained a positive outlook about most things. At this time…just a few short years back…I could hardly get out of bed for days on end. At one point I can remember my daughters (3, 9, 10 yrs old now) asking me to cook something for diner….and just staring into the kitchen cabinets…I could not for the life of me figure out how to actually cook dinner. The girls called their mom….she came over…fed the kids…and then took me to the hospital. They locked me up for about 2 weeks. I couldn't leave…total lockdown while they tried to figure out what was wrong with me. Bipolar disorder….deep depression….blah blah blah…. Hospitals….a long string of different meds…none that seemed to work…some that made things worse then they were on my own. Counseling….therapists….

I decided that I didn't need the meds…that I was better off without them and figuring out things on my own. What I needed was a PURPOSE again. Friends and family assured me (mostly over the prison type monitored phone calls) that the hospital couldn't hold me forever….that a typical stay was about 2 to 4 weeks…. I plotted with others there for ways to escape…there were guards to contend with… locks…barbed wire….it was basically like an insane asylum or like you might imagine one to be….some of my fellow depresse-ees were confined to straight jackets….ugggghhh…fortunately I didn't have to go thru that humiliation. I behaved the best I could and talked my best lines to the doctors and counselors each day…until finally one day…they said I could go home the next day.

I went home…tried all their different meds for a few months…then decided I could do better on my own. That mainly I just needed a purpose again. All I knew (at least this is what I thought at the time)…all I knew was real estate…and creative finance. How to buy real estate with no money down…with bad or no credit…how to raise capital…how to buy foreclosures ect ect. And now…nobody was buying ANYthing. Our economy was beginnnning to crumble.

About this time….I was turned on to Craiglsist. A real estate buddy of mine…was unloading his remaining properties faster than I had been able to…I had used it to do the same prior to my hospitalization….now I was using it purely for day to day survival…..I was finding things that people had placed by the apartment dumpsters …vacuums….acquariums….boxsprings and mattress sets…dressers…ect ect to sell for daily cash to buy groceries and gas….I was using Craigslist to get advice and attorneys to delay an inevitable eviction at my apartment….stalling them with the legal process for over 8 months (something I'm not pround of to this day…never again). Craigslist had become a survival tool. I was meeting lots of new people…friends….sometimes more.

I moved a few more times over he next year or so. In December 2008 I moved into a house that I had bought new from the builder in 2005. It was already behind in payments when I moved in…but I needed somewhere to live….I continued to use CL daily…….but had managed to harness its power to begin traveling all over….meeting some really great people….raising daily cash to live on….but the house was so far behind…losing it too….had become inevitable….about $200,000 more was owed on it then it was even worth. I am ashamed to admit that I was having to rely on food stamps.

I had accomplished some really incredible things with CL and had begun to turn things around….but it was too late to save the house. People were always impressed with my CL stories. Always seemingly pulling off the impossible. At least 100 people have told me…"write the book". I tried for over a year to do it on my own. For whatever reason, I couldn't do it.

Then my brother, Neal Hightower, ( www.sixsimpletruths.com ) turned me on to Tom. Tom had just spoken at Emory University in Atlanta near where Neal lives. He spoke one night on how to write your book. And on the following night on how to become published. He said that Tom was by far…the best instructor to teach on any subject that Neal had ever heard…a true genius…a guy that truly knew his shit….an expert. He encouraged me that if at all possible to check out these two college classes. He mentioned that Tom even lived in my home state of Arizona.

Neal forwarded to me a link in an email…Tom was going to be speaking at Paradise Valley Community College…just a mile form my home….and for only $19 bucks for each night. I had a $40 visa gift card that I had received for my birthday….and thought and prayed about whether the right thing to do was fill up my gas tank for another two weeks….or use the visa gift card to register and pay for both of the classes. God said…"the classes, Ry." The gas will show up…somehow. I went….and Neal was right…it was the best I had ever heard too. So glad I went.

Neal stayed in touch with me over the next few weeks….and said if there's any way…for me to get to the Sedona retreat…to do it. It was like four grand. I was in NO position to do it. Still…I set my intention. I was gonna be there come hell or high water. After the 2nd night of class (the classes were a few weeks apart), I sent Tom and email thanking him for the incredible info…feeling that now I could actually do it…write my book. People in this class were truly in the presence of greatness…but based on the dumb questions they were asking Tom…I don't think they even knew what they had in front of them. It didn't matter…he was there for ME those two nights….they rest of them can have whatever experience that they want with it.

Tom emailed me back…thanking me…and inquiring about why wasn't I signed up for his retreat (October 2009)? I said simply an issue of money…but that I so very wanted to be there. He emailed back with an appointment time for us to discuss the matter. I sweated and stressed for a week before that scheduled appointment…calling all of my closest friends and supporters asking them all…what the hell could I offer this guy so that he would let me in. I was DESPERATE. I had a car and a truck…BOTH had broken down and broken down bad in the past two weeks….I was losing my house (and did lose it just last week…December 3, 2009) and both cars were out of commission..I was on foot anywhere I was going (yup just like Forest Gump, ‘cept he had Bubba and Lieutenant Dan…I was on my own). No worries…transportation-wise…Sedona was only about 100 miles…I could get a ride…or hitch it or whatever…just not that far…I NEEDED to get to this write your book retreat. Tom called…and interviewed me…and we both concluded that this book of mine…it was bursting…the book labor pains had long since begun…and I was holding this book in for too long already….it needed to come out soon or there were gonna be some serious consequences. That interview lasted probly an hour. He was asking all the right questions…and apparently I was responding with all the right answers. Because…he answered a prayer of mine. I can't tell you the details….but what I can tell you…is that he extended to me great mercy and kindness….and worked out an arrangement that worked for both of us…in order for me to get in. I was in!!! He made me promise that I would stay in Sedona not commute to the retreat.

Sedona rooms are $200-300 a nite and up. Even camping sites were $20 a nite…times 8 nites…$160bucks…I didn't have it. But I would figure it out. Fast-forward three weeks. Show time. No room. No reservations. No money. I hopped in my truck. I used my foodstamps to buy a few bags (a week worth) of non perishable groceries….snacks mostly. I threw my sleeping bag in the truck. I filled the gas tank…and I headed north. I was given the opportunity of a lifetime…at the absolute perfect time…I wasn't missing this for the world. My truck broke down on the way to the retreat….it both overheated…and I completely shredded a tire…almost losing control of the truck on the road. I was shaken…but was fine. I had allowed plenty of time…had in fact left 4 hours before the start time…and Sedona was only about an hour and a half away…..but arrived 15 minutes late.

I was REALLY here!!! I didn't care about the stupid truck or where to sleep (I WAS worried about getting a couple of showers in…and not being the stinky guy in class LOL) or what to eat . Tom assured me…just show up….and this baby…this book of mine….was gonna come out. And it did!

The retreat lasted 8 days. It was AMAZING. I met 40 of the most loving caring supportive energetic people I have ever known. The group energy was phenonominal. We all had a common goal….to get our book written.

People have asked me how is it even possible to write an entire book in a week or less…much less a good one. Rest assured I had the same doubts. I wrote at a pace of about 2000 words per hour, by hand, on these huge artists pads that they give you at the retreat. The days were 8 to 10 hours long each…but between collecting my thoughts and not writing the entire time…spending much time on the rooftop patio…just praying…thinking….I managed about 10,000 words per day. Four and a half days in to the eight day retreat…I was done! 45,000 words….just short of the typical 50,000 words that you might find in a typical non fiction book…..all written by hand…..all from my heart and passion….directly thru the pen to the paper. (some of my friends did bring and use laptops at the retreat…for me the handwritten was a better way to go…no distractions checking email…spell checking ect ect…just WRITE WRITE WRITE!). I hadn't read any of it yet …we weren't allowed to.

When I read it…I was FLOORED. It was GOOD…REALLY, REALLY GOOD! Tom helped me query 990 literary agents at the retreat via email. 117 showed positive interest in what I had written. Talk about INSTANT results. Tom instructed us that if any of us received a phone call….that it was a HUGE…monumental sign…pretty much a direct sign from God….and that if such happened…to end the call quickly…get a name and number…and come find him IMMEDIATELY. He said in a group this size (about 40)…that one of us might get a call. I got SIX!!! (3 at the retreat, and 3 since having left the retreat). I had poured my heart and soul and my passion for Craigslist and my passion to truly help and serve other people…onto paper…and it had paid off BIG…or was about to.

Incidentally, Tom insisted that first night at the retreat…that I crash on his couch not in the bed of my pickup truck….I even got a hot shower each day that I was there (LOL). The truck overheated again on the way home…this time…I couldn't pull over quickly enough…and blew the engine in the truck….I made it almost all the way home…..I walked about 6 or 7 miles that night to safety. Its kinda funny…I was so used to not having a dollar to spare for that entire week…that I got all the way home (walking about 2 hours)…when I realized emptying my pockets…that a good friend of mine at the retreat had handed me several hundred dollars to put towards the book. I am pretty sure he would have been ok with me taking 20 bucks and calling a cab out of that money. Oh well…me and God had a nice two hour talk about a lot of things that night…at first just about how pissed off I was at Him regarding this cursed truck…but quickly turning it to all that I had to be grateful for and to look forward to. My life had changed forever!

So…that was October 17 thru the 25th , 2009.…just 7 weeks ago….today is December 13, 2009. Where am I at now? Im glad you asked. I am proud to share with you…that things are brighter and better than they have EVER been.

With the help of Tom and several in our group, as well as several other people….my book proposal (basically a business plan for your book) will be in the hands of about 80 of the 117 agents that are asking for it, by the end of this week. About a half dozen are HOUNDING me for more info on it. I have eliminated about 40 agents as not right for me or not right for this project. I have had two contracts already that are also…not for me, and that I have had to respectfully and graciously turn down. I have a current number one pick agent that I REALLY like a lot. She is a 30 year literary agent…and sold 18 books last year alone…several of them for multi-million dollar deals. She has called me three times expressing interest, and asking me if I needed any help in preparing the proposal for her. She has already stated that she would offer me a contract. One of these other 80 would have to really dazzle me to keep me from signing with this agent. But this agent selection process is oh so important….it can be the difference between your book becoming wildly successful and only moderately successful…also the difference can be many thousands of dollars in your pocket. The right agent…with the right book…can get a bidding war going with the publishers with your book…THAT'S…what you want…..drive that price thru the roof! The agent after all…stands to gain more by getting you more too. So I am careful with the agent selection process but very anxious to sign and let them do their job…namely….sell my book.

I anticipate being signed with an agent no later than the end of next week (this could take longer as some of these agents need some real time to review what you have sent them). I have done much research on these agents and on recent book sales and what prices are being paid ect. …and am confident if I dot all my "I"'s and cross all my "T"'s….that I can get A MILLION DOLLARS OR MORE for this book!

I have a connection …that I am trying to cut a deal with …that will crank out 10,000,000 (ten million!) emails PER WEEK..to targeted, known, Craigslist users…to sell the eBook version of my book until a publisher pays me enough to stop (or if I can retain the right to continue selling the eBook version…that would be even better). I am hoping for 1/10 of 1% sales on 10million emails sent…or 10,000 eBooks sold…per week….times 10 bucks each…$100,000 per week in eBook sales…70% to the email guy…30% for myself…or $30,000 per week to me until the book is bought by a publisher. My plan…is to take this printed out, proven track record and rush it to my new agent…further verifying the proven profitability and demand for my book…as well as quickly gather 100-200 testimonials from the first sales of my eBook and print those out too…giving both of those valuable tools as ammunition for my agent to go get the BIG MONEY for my book that it deserves. More importantly than all of this…my book HELPS people big time…it will change THEIR lives…show them how to work from home, start business, meet their soul mate, travel the country or the world, ect ect. You would have to actually read my book (how to get EVERYthing you want in life with Craigslist) to comprehend the magnitude of the things that are really possible with Craigslist.

I have 4 or 5 people working hard to edit my book…so that it is even more polished and refined by the time my agent or any of the publishers see it. I have made different deals with these folks…most just want a few copies of the book upon its completion…and to be able to add it to their portfolio.

A few I am helping market their books and or their businesses via Craigslist in exchange for their help editing. Find a need ..and fill it.

I am in close email contact with our retreat group at least weekly sometimes daily. I speak to some of them on the phone weekly….and a couple of them almost daily. They are there for anything I need. And I hope they know that I am there for them for anything that they need too. The support is amazing. Tom continues to be a strong supportive role too…even though the retreat has ended.

The house…well…its gone….it went back to the bank December 3.…last week…and I am approved for an apartment…hustling to get the $500 together in deposits to get out of there before the sheriff comes a'knockin. I anticipate my book being sold in January or February 2010 and paying CASH for a modest home in the next 3 to 6 months and never being in this financial jam again. The car?…the car is repaired for now….and I anticipate paying CASH for a modest new car in the next 3 to 6 months as well….and that will be the end of car trouble for a few years at least.

And the retreats?….well…I wouldn't miss the next one for the world!

I wrote the above in a little over an hour. To this day, Tom has never asked me to write a testimonial (other than a short video interview that we all did at the retreat just asking about our experience while there). I wrote this on my own, unsolicited. Why, you may ask? I wrote this because I was compelled to share my story (as embarrassing as some of it is)….maybe it will make a difference. I wrote it to give to Tom…for him to give it to anybody that is even thinking about writing a book or attending one of his retreats. Or maybe they are on the fence. I wrote it for me to do the same. You see…I am a man on a mission now….my mission…is to spread the word. If they've got a book in them (and lets be honest…don't we all have at least one?)….then my job…my job is to get them in touch with Tom. What they discuss and decide is best for each other from that point…is up to both of them.

Tom has published 19 of his own books…and helped students publish over 2,000 books over the last 30 years. He is THE MAN on getting your book out of your head…and getting it printed and published…if that's what you want to do.
